One day, I tell you… one day

So why a full album? he asked

What do you mean? what’s wrong with a full album?

Nothing I guess, but you know, people don’t usually do that these days, they release a single or an EP in some cases, or a different single every few months.

Well, from this reason exactly! Singles don’t tell a story, they can’t make the artist share with you his world, they can’t define a period in ones’ life, the artist and the listener, and above all that, albums, by definition, state that the artist has something to say, and as a lister, I want to know that. It is so frustrating to hear a song and connect with it, and search more from the same band, singer, whatever, and to hear the entire album and understand it is not really a good album… but it is more frustrating to hear a song, search for more, and find out there isn’t any, or that the artist released a song five months ago, that doesn’t have anything connected to the one song you liked. You immediately get the feeling that he didn’t invest any of his time on you, to tell a story, to show you his world.

So, you are basically trying to frustrate your audience? He laughed.

Yeah…. I do prefer the frustration on the first kind! But I also do understand why people do that; this is the way the world is now. But it doesn’t mean it will stay that way. You know, growing up I remember my dad had a collection of dozens of vinyl records that he rarely played, as much as I remember. When I was around 13 years old, we moved to a different city. Few months after I started getting more and more into music, so I came up to my dad, asking him about the records. I already planned where would I put them, how I will go and get an old record player, it’s going to be my great collection that will accompany me for the rest of my life… my dad told me he didn’t know what to do with the records when we moved, so he just gave them away, and even throw some away. I didn’t speak with him for about two months…

So, you know, things come and go, and one day you’ll see people will talk about the new album of this band and the radio will continue to “go-back” and remembering 10 years since this album, 20 years… one day someone will remember this album as well… One day, I tell you… one day.
