You’ll get over it

Can you feel it? we are really close to the end…

I started the mastering already and the mixing is just around the corner. I need to know in what order do the songs go.

Oh, I think it was the most difficult decisions I had to make in this process. It took me weeks to come to the decision; I have to say it wasn’t that different from my initial planning, back when we started to work on the album, but there were several recording sessions and decisions we took during the recording, that flip some of the songs on the list.

It’s always like that. I mean, you start with a plan with something that sat well for you, but you almost always change it as the process advance. Some of the songs doesn’t really sound the same as you think they would be, not mentioning fast songs that goes slow and the other way around. There’s also something with the flow of the songs of the album.

I got this; I encounter many of those issues. Not only that, don’t forget I am going to issue the album as a vinyl record, just like the good old days. So, there’s the issue of side A / side B lengths. Did you know that many of the vinyl records manufactures in Europe (the ones I looked into) only make each side up to 20-22 minutes? And we did a bad job in producing 48-50 minutes album…

So, basically my choices here were narrowed down. I knew what the first song is, and even the second. I also decided what the last two are. And also in between I got the main structure, but in order to maintain a flow, I needed to make some hard choices.

Don’t forget what we talked about at the very first meetings we had; an album is not just a completion of songs; it is a story. It doesn’t have to be a theme type of an album, but generally speaking, an album should capture your feelings and emotions, and let it touch you throughout the entire listening.

I wouldn’t be happy with the process, and approval toward myself if at the end the songs and their order, wouldn’t make much sense or provide the listeners, the flow that is so much needed here.

but again, the last factors and the final decision came after I heard the entire set of songs and saw how much time each one was. But I have to say that the order I chose matched perfectly to the style of the album and the story I wanted to tell. Even if some songs were longer that what is usually being released today.

I tell you, last time as a producer, I let the artist make a 5–6-minute song. I should have nip it in the bud hen you came to me with those.

Hey, hey… don’t forget at the very beginning you already took half of my guitar solo in ‘white line’, that’s bother me until today.

You’ll get over it.
